In a runway bustling with some of the industry’s most famous faces including Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Stella Maxwell, Moschino’s 2017 show had the theme of “cardboard couture”. Yes, you heard correctly.

These models stomped the runway in quirky get-ups that looked like they were made out of cardboard, packing tape, dry cleaner bags, and trash bags. There was even a bag that looked as if it was made from toilet paper. Though the collection was meant to make people giggle at some of the absurdities in the fashion world, the designer Jeremy Scott was making a much larger statement by parading his supermodels down a cardboard clad runway in their “cardboard couture”. Scott’s show promoted up-cycling and he also spoke in a few interviews about how the world is really filling up with so much waste. It was also meant to highlight the unsustainable nature of fast-fashion.
Scott ended the show wearing a shirt that said, “Couture is an attitude”, which basically summed up the message of the show. Scott believes that couture should be about the person carrying the garment and not the price one paid for it.
