Seams For Dreams evolves as trendsetter in the ethical and sustainable fashion movement in India

It was 2015 that the founder of SFD, Bollywood actor and philanthropist Evelyn Sharma, had a vision to make a positive impact on India by giving back through fashion.

Players in other parts of the world in the ethical and sustainable fashion movement had already started companies, charities, and social enterprises that focused on some element of the crusade, so why wasn’t there anything more available in India? This was the ethos that drove Sharma to start Seams FoIr Dreams, a charity focused on giving back in style by using the universal love for fashion.

Since its inception in 2015, Seams For Dreams has evolved to be a major player in ethical and sustainable fashion in India. Not only has the organization expanded its footprint to include other aspects of sustainability, but the organization has also inspired other charities, business, and social entrepreneurs today to take a more mindful approach to fashion through awareness campaigns and the SFD Blog.

In 2015, the organization simply focused on becoming a platform to take and distribute second-hand clothing and racked up 6000 pieces in donations, which were then donated to people in need of appropriate clothing across India. After successfully partnering with various NGOs, support of social causes and organization of outreach projects, Seams For Dreams naturally expanded their focus on ethical fashion.

By highlighting the efforts of major designers who were tackling the issue of ethical fashion by creating clothes that are made either from sustainable fabrics, by artisans and not machines, and through ethically sourced means, SFD was able to shed light on the landscape of the industry in 2016.

While the work described in 2015-2016 is still ongoing and very much a priority for SFD, as the organization grows there is more potential to focus on new aspects of ethical and sustainable fashion and 2017 is very much the year where up-cycling has been introduced as a primary focus area for SFD through various programs you can follow up on our AWARENESS Blog.

Partnerships are increasing with broadening the NGOs network across India, fashion designers, and local businesses that encourage second-hand fashion. SFD is excited to take on more initiatives as the capacity of the organization increases consistently with the growing number of clothing donors and financial supporters.

SFD has truly become the pioneers in bringing ethical fashion trend to India and hopes that more organizations become motivated through it’s continuing endeavors to use fashion to give back.

Keep Giving In Style!
