Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, It’s Spring Cleaning Time!

Spring cleaning is a necessity for us all. We encourage cleaning at the start of every season, but springtime is especially symbolic, as it signifies a time for new growth! Spring cleaning is extremely therapeutic and helps us make space while properly organizing our items. What’s great about spring cleaning is that it gives you an excuse to size up your wardrobe and figure out what you no longer need and what you need to keep!

Our tips for spring cleaning are simple! First, sort your items into three piles – keep, upcycle/recycle, and donate! Remember, it’s unnecessary to throw anything away so even if something is tattered badly, it’s good to find charities like Seams For Dreams that upcycle your scraps, or you could upcycle these things yourself! If you’re unsure if your city has an easy donation drop, check out organizations like the Red Cross, a local place of worship, or the Salvation Army. Most importantly, not throwing away your clothes and donating them instead can help someone else in need while helping save our planet!

A good rule to use here if spring cleaning is all too overwhelming and you have a lot of stuff, organize everything based on the color palette so you can figure out how much you have of certain pieces. For instance, if you have 10 black, basic tees, you know it’s probably time to donate some. Always keep in mind that seasonal essentials are something you should most definitely keep, but make sure you don’t have an excessive amount of one type of clothing.

We know that this can all be very emotionally taxing and some of your favorite pieces may end up in the discard pile because they’re worn and old. Fret not! Upcycling is always an option and you can increase the lifespan of some of the best pieces you own. Let’s say you’ve got torn pants, well put on a patch in the larger ripped areas or hem the bottoms. Denim is versatile and so are all the things you can do with denim once they’re worn out! Create cute accessory baskets, make them into shorts or a skirt, or hand-make fun jewelry!

Everybody should spring clean and your bursting wardrobe could use the space and love! As always, keep Seams For Dreams in mind while you spring clean this year and schedule your very own donation pick-up with the SFD Truck that comes right to your doorstep. Happy cleaning!
