Today, we are talking all about how to turn your scraps into the beautiful decor. Anybody that is familiar with Seams For Dreams and what we do, upcycling is a big part of our passion and being advocates for responsible fashion by spreading awareness only furthers the cause! Upcycling is an efficient way to make use of old and worn-out pieces and prevents tonnes of waste from ending up in our landfills.
If you have clothing that is old, torn, or just plain worn, here are five ideas that can transform your rags into the useful and creative decor. The handmade decor is all the rage, but who says it all has to be made from new materials? We’re here to give you quick and fun solutions to all those scraps you have hiding in your closet. So let’s get crafty and transform your old clothes!
1. Pillow covers made out of t-shirts, denim, or old sarees:
It depends on the vibe you’re going for, but who can ever have too many cushions? What’s great is that cushion covers are super easy to stitch and if you don’t have enough fabric, try a patchwork version!
2. Fabric flowers for that extra bit of charm:
You can use these almost anywhere and everywhere! They most definitely add less waste to our landfills and more charm to your home. String these along with your fairy lights or create jewelry and accessories from these adorable little bouquets.
3. Reusable cloth bags for all your shopping needs:
Now that single-use plastics are banned, more and more vendors require you to bring your bag to shop for your fruits and vegetables. These bags even come in handy when you’re traveling and need laundry bags for your clothes!
4. Coasters for those soggy coffee tables:
Denim or thicker materials are ideal for coasters. Upcycled coasters made from fabric are mostly machine washable and make for lovely little DIY gifts.
5. Simple wall-hangings and photo frames:
You can change up your existing photo frames and wall hangings by adding gorgeous fabric to them. If you’re ever bored with your current home decor, your old sarees and leftover fabrics can be the perfect remedy for an uninspired wall.
